You just walked out of an interview and you have no idea how it went. That feeling is incredibly common. The good news is there are real signals you can pick up on during and after the conversation that give you a pretty good idea.
Job interviews are exhausting. You prepare, you are nervous, and then afterwards comes the overthinking. Was that good? Did they like me? As someone who has conducted many interviews I can tell you: there are genuine signals worth paying attention to.
1
The interview ran longer than scheduled
If a 45-minute slot turned into 90 minutes that is a very good sign. Nobody wastes time with candidates they are not interested in.
2
They asked about your salary expectations
Salary conversations come up when there is genuine interest. If the topic came up at all that is a clear positive signal.
3
They explained onboarding or your first weeks in detail
When interviewers start talking about what the first few weeks would look like they are already thinking in terms of "when you start" rather than "if".
4
You were introduced to team members or other colleagues
This does not happen in every interview. If someone went out of their way to introduce you to others that is a strong signal they are taking you seriously.
5
The atmosphere was relaxed and there was genuine laughter
If the conversation at some point felt like a normal chat between colleagues rather than an interrogation that is a good thing.
6
They gave you a clear next step
"We will get back to you by Friday" or "We would like to invite you to a second round" are concrete signals. Vague statements like "we will see" often mean less.
7
They asked about your notice period
When could you start? Interviewers only ask this when they are making concrete plans. It is almost always a positive sign.
8
The interviewers actively listened and asked follow-up questions
If your answers sparked real follow-up questions rather than just the next item on a checklist that shows genuine engagement and interest.
9
They actively sold you on the role
If your interviewer started highlighting the benefits of working there and explaining why it is a great place to work they are trying to convince you. That only happens with real interest.
10
You left with a good feeling
Simple but true. Your gut feeling is often more reliable than you think. If you walked out feeling positive about how it went that was probably not a coincidence.
What if silence follows anyway?
Yes, that happens even after great interviews. You made a strong impression, the next step was confirmed and then nothing. That is frustrating and unfortunately not rare.
If a company ghosts you after an interview: that says more about them than about you. And yes, you can leave your experience anonymously on Ghosted.Global. It helps other applicants know what they are walking into.
Before your next interview it is worth checking how quickly that company typically gives feedback. You can look that up on Ghosted.Global for free and anonymously.
